What is OxCast?
OxCast is a PodCast, hosted by Ox. OxCast is broadcast from a small town in Northwest Arkansas. Any number of topics are discussed on OxCast, everything from Poker to Paradise, and Reviews to Complaints. There are many special sections to OxCast. Sound Studio (local music), Movie Review, Book Review, and the famed OxPiss where Ox blows his top talking about some horrible customer service, or maybe just stupid people. Give us a listen and let us know what you like, what you’d like to hear, or what you hate. We do this solely for fun, and nothing more. We only hope that this will be an entertaining view inside the mind of Ox.
Over the years, OxCast has grown to not only Ox, but a myriad of other co-hosts. The co-host most often found on OxCast is the “Heifer” Ox’s wife. Get it? Ox & Heifer (some have even wanted to change the name from OxCast to the “Heifer & Ox show” I wonder who that was… and yes it is correct as she has not bore any children. Other hosts have included, Wookie, Tweety, Balding Avenger, MG, Ms. D, and many others. If you’d ever like to co-host a show, send Ox a note, he’ll probably let you, so long as you can abide by the strict rehearsal schedule, bring content to the table, etc, etc.. ok ok.. maybe just show up…

Recording (the art of low budget and short on time podcasting)
OxCast is what we call “One-Shot-Recording” basically, we hit record and start talking.. If we screw up… well that’s too bad.. we’ve got to keep going.. We look at it much like talk radio.. There’s no taking anything back… Once it’s said it’s out there… We like this format because a) it’s simple, and b) it’s real.
When the show first started, I used record each bit, re-record, edit, cut, etc. I’d spend two hours trying to record a simple 20 minute show. Now for some of you this might be fun, but for me.. not so much… When we hit stop, we immediately upload the file, make the post and are finished. This is the way we like it.. maybe it doesn’t sound as professional as some other shows, but it works very well for us.
We use a very cheap way of recording all of OxCast… Software: Audacity (open source recording tool), PodProducer (free podcasting recording software). Hardware: 2 $0 Logitech wraparound headsets w\ Microphones from Best Buy. Plus two “Y” stereo audio (samething you’d use so that two people can listen to the same iPod) Total Cost: $50. For a solo job all you need is the $20 microphone. If you’re interested in doing a show, let me know.. I’ll gladly help you get started..
